President Lee Jae Myung, elected as Korea’s 21st president on June 4, participated in the G7 Summit held from June 15-17. His attendance came at the invitation of Canada, the host nation, marking his first international engagement just 10 days after taking office.

Over the three-day summit, President Lee conducted a series of bilateral meetings with leaders from nine countries and one international organization head. On June 15, he met with the leaders of South Africa and Australia. On June 16, he held bilateral talks with the heads of Brazil, Mexico, India, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, the European Union and the United Nations. The President confirmed special partnerships with each nation and strengthened cooperative ties. Significant progress was made in discussions on trade, commerce and other bilateral issues, with many leaders praising Korea’s diplomatic reengagement and warmly welcoming the new administration’s launch. These interactions also created opportunities for future cooperation and dialogue, with countries extending mutual invitations to upcoming international conferences and forums.

The G7 Summit focused on three main themes: enhancing collective security and global stability, creating prosperity through energy security and digital transformation, and investing in partnerships for the future. The expanded session specifically addressed “The Future of Energy Security.” President Lee spoke twice during this session, outlining Korea’s policies and vision for contributing to global prosperity through “energy supply chain cooperation” and “AI-energy integration and technological innovation.”

The G7 participation served as an opportunity to strengthen trust between the international community and Korea, while demonstrating the country’s firm commitment to making significant contributions to global development.
