KOREA

December 2022

Houses are where people live. Sometimes, however, old homes become much more than this. In the hands of creative individuals, abandoned houses can become spaces where culture, tradition and modern lifestyles converge. From inspiring art galleries to trendy bars and cafes, old houses are finding plenty of new uses, and in the process redefining what it means to be a house.

In this issue of KOREA, we visit Seoul’s E UM The Place, a traditional Hanok home now open to the public as an art gallery. We visit Kkotssul as well, another old home in Seoul transformed through the power of furniture design and traditional liquor.

We also talk to choreographer Kim Bora, learn more about the hit TV series “20th Century Girl,” enjoy a bowl of chicken and ginseng soup and much, much more.
