The New Zealand State Library and the KCC in Sydney on Nov. 12 jointly hosted an online book discussion featuring Cho Nam-joo's acclaimed feminist novel "Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982."
Achieving sales of over a million copies worldwide, the work is about a Korean woman in her 30s dealing with the reality of marriage, career and childrearing while experiencing gender discrimination in modern society. Jane Park, a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney's Gender and Cultural Studies Department, shared her thoughts on the book and read aloud a letter she received from author Cho. Prior to the discussion, the film adaptation of the novel was screened at the annual Korean Film Festival in Australia in early November. |
